Frequent Questions

Engagement Photography in Dallas, Texas

I am almost always asked about my pricing, delivery timelines, travel guidelines, albums and wedding details, so I wanted to create a list of the most asked questions so that they can better serve you! Please feel free if you have any additional questions that are not on here, I will be glad to help in any way I can. I hope to hear from you soon!

  • Why is your pricing not on your website?

While I can totally understand wanting to find pricing without having to ask, there are reasons why prices are impractical to be posted online. Each wedding is a culmination of your ideas and wishes; therefore that makes your wedding entirely unique, and completely different from any others. I custom tailor my pricing based on what type of coverage you want, and what your needs are. I can create custom collections and if you need more details send me an email, and I will send you any information that you would like.

  • Do you shoot destination weddings, and how far will you travel?

Absolutely! I will be happy to travel wherever you hold your event! I have a special love for flying on airplanes and I am comfortable traveling. Should you decide to book me for your destination wedding, travel is billed very simply. If airfare, hotel and rental car are needed, all you are responsible for is reimbursement for the expenses.

  • Do you provide video services?

I am a photographer and do not specialize in video, however I do have recommendations for videographers that are available upon request.

  • How long does it take before we receive our products and photos?

Online galleries are posted within three weeks from the date of the wedding and this is when I release all of your digital files as well. Albums require a longer amount of time because of the design process and your selection of images to be used. The album will be shipped to you within two weeks upon the final approval of the design process.

  • Are digital files watermarked?

For wedding collection, no they are not. High resolution images will not have any watermarks on them.

  • How many pictures will we receive?

Quantity depends on a variety of factors, the amount of guests, coverage time, the type of your event etc. My average for an 8-hour wedding with a 2nd photographer is around 700. These numbers can also vary upon the day itself, but if you have additional questions regarding the quantity get in touch with me and I can provide you with a more detailed explanation.

  • Do we get to keep the RAW unedited files?

I don't include the raw files for a particular reason, because the images I select for editing and final approval reflect my very high standards, and everything else does not meet those requirements. I do not select based on quantity of images, only the best are chosen.

  • Do we get the copyright of the images?

Copyright is a funny word, copyright means that I am the owner and the creator of the images and I own the copyright. When photographers talk about a copyright release that means that you will be able to print and share your images as much as you would like without the photographer's permission.

  • Do you need to attend the rehearsal dinner?

I don't typically attend the rehearsal dinner, but if that is something that you would like covered in your collection then I can definitely be there. Rest assured that not attending your rehearsal dinner will not affect coverage on the day of your wedding.

  • What do we do if we want to order prints, how does that work?

Once I am finished editing all the images from your event, your digital files will then be available for direct download in a password protected online gallery. You will be able to order your prints directly from the online gallery or you will be able to print them yourself at a lab of your choice. We highly suggest that you print through our lab because each print goes through an extensive quality control process. I cannot guarantee the quality of prints that are not ordered through our lab.

  • How does the album design process work?

Wedding albums are a prized family heirloom; they encapsulate the beautiful record of your wedding day and most importantly, the day your life began as a family. If your album was initially purchased in your collection, then I will start the design process to help make it easier for you! Once you have a chance to look through it, we can set up a time to meet, or Skype and finish the design.

  • What will my album look like once it's completed?

Each album is made with love and care, as we know this is an heirloom that will last for a lifetime. The lab we use makes absolutely beautiful albums that have a fresh modern look. Each image is printed onto the page just like a coffee table book you would buy at a store. I try to keep each albums design super simple so it's more appealing. All signature albums incorporate a one-piece wraparound cover design, up to 50 spreads, photographic and press papers, thick or thin page options and multiple cover options all included in the price Your choice can be from a variety of sizes and optional upgrades to create an album that fits big and small budgets alike.

  • What is your online gallery you mentioned in your collections?

You're online gallery has a private password protected section on my website where all of your wedding photos will be placed online for you, family and friends to view. It is also a secure shopping cart that allows you, your family and friends to order prints and cards and select album prints online. A day after your wedding, you will receive an automatic email to add any friends or family so that when the images are posted in the online gallery, they will receive a notification. It's also the way we will deliver your images to you. You will have a download key and can begin downloading your images as soon as the online gallery is created.

  • Do you work with a 2nd photographer?

A second photographer may be needed depending on the size of the event. In situations where there are a lot of moving parts, lots of guests, different ceremony and reception locations etc., having a 2nd photographer can greatly help. A 2nd photographer will be able to capture what I cannot, since I cannot be in two places at one time. Either way, you have the ability to choose if you want one with, or without. You can also decide if you would like a 2nd photographer later as well.

  • Do you edit all your photographs?

Absolutely! Images straight out of camera can be flat and lifeless even if the image has good exposure. I edit each image individually and carefully select the best ones to keep in your collection. Many times during an event a few favorites will stand out, those will receive special attention above the individual editing.

  • Do you take posed family photos?

Absolutely! Family images are important because they document a celebration of the family at an important time in your history together. Several weeks before your wedding I will send you a questionnaire covering the details of the day. Among the questions will be a list of posed images, these are family groupings that I traditionally photograph at each wedding. You will also have space to write in your own additional groupings as requested.

  • Do you use more natural light or flash in your photography?

I prefer to use natural light when possible, this can give an image more depth and shadow than taking an evenly lit image. I also believe it tells more of a story. Using flash can also depend on the venue, and in a situation where there is no natural light, or in the evening when there is no sunlight, flash will be a necessity. In doing formals, I will almost always use flash to make sure everyone is visible without shadows.

  • Can we provide you with a "shot list" or "must take" pictures?

For the formals, most definitely! I will also send over a questionnaire before the date of the wedding to know what all formal groupings you would like to be taken. I do believe it would be counter productive to work off of a shot list for the entire day instead of letting moments naturally occur.

  • What kind of camera gear do you use?

I have always been a Cannon shooter, currently in my arsenal I shoot with a Cannon 5D Mark III as my main camera, and my back up is a Cannon 5D Mark II. I use all "L" Series lenses, which are top of the line in Cannon's professional equipment. I am able to cover short range as well as long range. The short range lens's are great for group photos in tight spaces and my long range lens is great when I'm capturing candid moments from a distance.

  • How long have you been in business?

I shot my first wedding in 2012, and I was hooked since!! Fortunately, I was blessed to have a mentor that is a professional wedding photographer with 30 years of experience shooting weddings. Needless to say, I was shown the ropes early on, and working with him I have shot roughly 20 weddings a year at all different kinds of venues in the DFW area.

  • Can you hold a date for me?

Yes, in order to hold the date I just ask for a retainer and a signed agreement! Once that's been completed, I'm all yours for the amount of time booked!

  • What is your payment schedule?

A retainer and signed contract is needed to hold the date open and after, I require the remaining balance to be paid a week before the wedding.

  • Can we pay you part of the amount after the wedding?

I do require full payment before the event. Payment for overtime, album upgrades and additional products beyond your wedding day contract are all due after the wedding. If you have any concerns about the payment schedule I would love to talk with you about it!

  • If I need to cancel my wedding, is the retainer refundable?

The retainer fee and all monies paid are non-refundable. The retainer assures you I will hold the date exclusively for you and once the contract is signed, I do turn all other commissions down for that date.

  • When should we book you for our wedding?

As soon as you possibly can! Dates fill up along the way, and once we are booked, well... we are committed. Most couples start their planning a year out from the date of the wedding, and sometimes a few months prior.

  • Do we need to feed you at the reception?

A good meal is not a requirement but would be a lovely treat after a long day of shooting. That makes for a happy photographer and more energy to shoot the rest of the night. However, I only wish to eat when the bride and groom eat, this way I'm not missing out on any moments that may occur.

  • Can our family and friends take pictures with their cameras?

Of course they can and I would totally expect it! I do request that they not swarm or crowd family photos right away because all eyes should face me in the images. I would refrain from family and friends not being present during shots of the bride and the groom, as it can be distracting. Usually after all formals are completed, I will release the wedding party to the reception. This allows me to have some time to work with the bride and groom alone with those distractions. I do welcome other cameras during dancing, cake cutting and other events as long as people aren't pushing me out of the way.
